BATS Discussion

The following points were made during a class discussion about the BATS: North Carolina demo. As a reference, the tasks the students were supposed to perform can be found in the assignment.

• A bug prevented full use of the software.
• Most people thought the demo was easy to download, but the link could have been near the top of the page.
• People generally found it frustrating to complete tasks with eyes closed.
• Most people found the Cherokee task hardest, possibly because the reservation has no visible label and possible because people did not have an idea where it is.
• The installer seems to be inaccessible. It is hard to choose new options, but at least the defaults put the program in multiple places for easy access.
• The size of the city targets didn't seem to factor into the difficulty of the first two tasks.
• Using pitch for map elevation and cursor position was mentioned.
• People indicated it was hard to tell how far they had moved on map by moving a mouse or joystick.
