It appears to have a defective washer. Not an ordinary O-ring unfortunately but rather a gasket with a “frill” on it. Their customer service number is 800-782-2385. I think it is a 104-557HC. I called on 7 January and they are sending and entire “stem” rather than just the O-ring. On 12 January I received a new complete “stem” for my faucet. Great customer service. I would have been happy with just the gasket but this will get it working again. B&K Mueller is a quality company. I’ll buy and recommend their stuff for sure.
On further examination I found that the tubular shaft was cracked allowing water to enter it and spray out the knob. I soldered the cracks and it seems to work now.

thanks – I had a leaking issue with a B&K Mueller Quartermaster faucet and used the above service number. Replacement stem is on order and will be sent when in stock. Concur – customer service was great.
thanks for the tip.
Thanks for the tip. I have a QM faucet that is spraying water out the handle too. I’ll be ordering a new stem or two!
Overall I found that the faucet seems kind of under-engineered. The plastic handle is cracked and the feel of the valve mechanism does not provide a lot of positive feedback. I’ll stick with it for now if I can fix it just by replacing the stem, though.
Agreed. I’m unimpressed with the durability. But what is the alternative? The unknown maker model on the other side of my house is much worse.
I need a replacment handle for B & K 104-557hc 10″ sillcock Quartermaster Frost Free Sillcock
It wont open up the water . How do I get one?
The parts list is on their web site. Give that 800 number a call.
Customer service from B&K Mueller is fantastic. They sent me a replacement handle for my Sillcock
immediately. Best service I have ever had.
I bought a Frost free B&K 104-55hc 10″ and the Plastic Handle cracked. How can I get a new Plastic Handle?
Thanks

I had two of these frost-frees break one after another. So the second time around, I took a picture of the broken stem and wrote instructions for getting it fixed in my blog. It only takes a few minutes to get it done: http://www.odessapage.com/new/en/QuarterMaster-Frost-Free-Silcock-Problem-Repair
I found this web site an excellent source and help with my QuarterMaster product. I called the 1900 number in one of the responses and the company sent me a repair part, no charge. Great company to deal with.
Wow, this site is great. I have 2 of these things and neither made it through their first winter. Both of them were unable to completely stop the flow of water. After pulling the stems out, I saw the same problem on both–one of the innermost rubber washers was out of place. After correcting this, one of the spigots works fine but the other still had a very slow drip. Customer service was the quickiest and easiest call EVER. Basically took my name and address and is mailing me complete units (they are out of replacement stems). Overall, great service but a very questionable product. Thank you everyone who contributed to this site!
I like woodford hosebib faucets. Have you ever used one of them? They are based in colorado and they are easy to fix and reliable.
Thanks to your site for problem solving the B & K 104-557HC 10″ sillock problems. I installed 2 valves, a 10″ & 12″. The 10″ leaked thru the handle. Slowly at first then more so. called the CO. A lady L. at the company without question said maybe the cartridge was failed, set a replacement. I replaced and tried it, still leaked badly. Your site’s first statement suggested a crack in the copper tube from front to cartridge. I checked it out, and yes, found a 4″ crack along the tube. called the Company, and talked with L. again, she was wonderful and once again they understood the problem and said they would send a replacement tube, actually received the whole valve; replaced it and all is “”A”" OK. What wonderful customer service. I wish more companies worked like this. I would recomend their products any time since they back the items up.
