After finding iDaft and then the YouTube video on Tar Heel Reader, I’m thinking about music games in a new way. In a trip down memory lane we came across Mahna Mahna. I love this video!
I have this feeling that there is a fun game idea in here for Maze Day (and beyond). I’m not sure what it is. Perhaps you press a square on the DDR Pad to hear one phrase “mahna mahna, dee dee da dee dee”. Then you have to press another one to go to the next phrase? Or perhaps it is a joint effort between two kids? One doing “mahna mahna” and the other doing the dee’s? Maybe the background is playing in a loop and you have to queue the “mahna mahna” at the right time like Guitar Hero?
Give it a listen and then give me some ideas in the comments.

Michael Stewart has mentioned you many times throughout his career. Anyway we discussed this blog a while ago and I figured I would give you my two cents about it. I was thinking that making a Theremin-like tool/instrument, that instead of manipulating the electromagnetic field, it could measure the position of the human anatomy or extremity, and play back an associated song/tone/piece of recording, based on the position. This could associate with user skill level, with the basic having only a judgment of whether or not you are moving, and playing chronological sounds to a song (like what basic toddler toys encompass, where as long as the toddler hits a button, it will progress throughout the song), to advanced levels where the user could manipulate several pre-recorded sounds to make her/his own song. Don’t know if the Theremin is the correct technology, or if the technology in the infrared keyboard (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.biztoolbelt.com/uploads/5CellulonCL850VirtualKeyboard.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.biztoolbelt.com/2006/08/lightly_typing_the_cellulon_cl.html&h=300&w=400&sz=119&tbnid=c_KlH0mfv7IhwM::&tbnh=93&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dinfrared%2Bkeyboard&hl=en&usg=__bhWO9TeT968_PPCScr9dGuzrZ9E=&ei=Rs8USpTCKdnJtgei7ZTbDA&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=6&ct=image) would measure the correct body placement. This would be similar to an air-drummer? instead of an air guitar if you understand my idea correctly. The games would be easy ( I assume) but could have similar applications like what Michael did with DDR and the kids.
