This MATLAB demo shows an example of Refinement for point selection as a particular instance of our neighborhood and fitting framework.

The neighborhood is an RTIN, which is a hierarchical triangulation much like a quadtree (Samet 1990).

The fitting method is a novel piecewise quadratic that I wanted to compare with Chui's InterpolatorySubdivision?; details are being written up.

The metric for evaluating which neighborhoods are well-fit is a combination of average and maximum squared error over each triangle.

This demo uses a sample of gridded Lidar data in the University of Utah area, from James Little (NGA).
